Will the Maldives Sink?

Will the Maldives Sink?

This curiosity grew with news of global warming putting many groups of islands at risk, and the Maldives is one of them.

Global warming causes higher tides and causes marine habitats for coral reefs to diminish due to changing temperatures. And because the Maldives originated from the piling of corals, it is especially vulnerable to this impact.

As the Maldives continues to be under speculation that it may one day sink, the government of the Maldives has not succumbed to such fate. Navigators and geologists have been employed to survey small islands to record sea levels at all times. Floating artificial islands have also been built as an alternative housing option and to promote tourism.

No one is 100% certain about whether the Maldives will sink or not. If we help to alleviate global warming today by reducing greenhouse gases, the sea won’t overheat, corals won’t be bleached, coral reefs will grow, and the Maldives will continue to exist in this world.
